Is it possible to replace the vegetable oil in a cake mix recipe with something else, like butter?

It's a red velvet cake, and the ingredients you're supposed to add are vegetable/cooking oil and eggs. I have eggs but no oil. Will melted butter serve the same purpose? Is it possible to replace the vegetable oil in a cake mix recipe with something else, like butter?
Yes you can replace vegetable oil in cake mix by melt butter and let it cool before add into cake mix, good luckIs it possible to replace the vegetable oil in a cake mix recipe with something else, like butter?
Sort of kind of but you're going to have to clarify the butter first in order to get the amounts right/

The reason that you have to do that is while oil is 100%fat butter is not ,Butter is only 80 % fat

The easiest way to get the numbers right is to simply clarify more butter than you actually need then take out what you need for your recipe and save the rest for another day.
I dont know if it would work for that type of cake but I do know from experience you can use any of the following to bind egg to various flours though you may need extra sugar or spices:

light olive oil for heavier cakes that use semolina

greek or indian style yogurt

milk margarine sour cream buttermilk ghee
if i'm not mistaken, in a lot of baking recipes you can substitute oil with applesauce! healthier too
This sounds weird but you can replace oil with either applesauce or pureed prunes. It works, I've tried it with applesauce. It is in the heart healthy and low fat cook books.
yes after all its only to bind the ingredients go for it.
Yes,but the taste will change a little bit.
yes but i would not
