What is something you can use instead of vegetable oil for brownies?

I'm trying to bake a pick-me-up for my friend by the time she gets back from interview today, I put in all the brownie mix, then remembered I had absolutely no vegetable oil. What's a good substitute for 2/3 cup of vegetable oil?What is something you can use instead of vegetable oil for brownies?
You can substitute pretty much any oil for vegetable oil (which is soybean oil) in the recipe. However, you should take two points into consideration when choosing a different oil: flavor and temperature.





For flavor, you want to pick an oil that will either taste neutral or will complement the flavor of the brownies. I would recommend canola oil since it is pretty much neutral but has a slight buttery taste.





For temperature, you want to use an oil which has a smoke point above what it will be cooked at in the oven. You should be able to find the smoke points of different oils online. My canola oil has a smoke point of 425 degrees F. If the recipe uses a temperature equal to or less than 425, I would again recommend canola oil.





Finally, canola oil is healthier than soybean oil. Canola oil has less saturated fat and more monounsaturated fat.

You're nice! You can use applesauce instead of oil. Use the same amount, so 2/3 c applesauce. Will prob be sweeter and softer than it would be with the oil, but that's okay for most people. (Don't use cinnamon flavored applesauce.)
Lard. Canola oil. I have heard that apple sauce will do the trick, too, but I have never tried it. Or was that to replace eggs? Otherwise, I'm afraid you're going to need the oil or it just isn't going to work right.
The perfect substitute is unsweetened applesauce, but you can also use plain yogurt or even canned pumpkin puree (all measured to 2/3 cup).
You can try a healthier alternative by using olive oil or grapeseed oil. Or my favorite, I Cannot Believe It's Not Butter. All are better alternatives than just vegatable oil. Hope this helps.
