Is vegetable oil work in place of shortening?

I am baking a Silver White Cake. I am wondering if vegetable oil will work in place of shortening. If so, does this apply to other baked goods as well?Is vegetable oil work in place of shortening?
Is shortening (a popular brand is called Crisco, so keep that in mind next time you're shopping) in your batter or are you using it to grease the pan with?

If it's in your batter, i suggest using butter in it's place. You need that creaminess. Oil is slick and watery and Butter is thick. You can see the differance.

If you are using it to grease your pan with, I suggest using flour in it's place. It'll help yer cake not stick to the pan. I, myself, like using Pam Cooking Spray With Flour (i'm not that if that's the name of it.. but yeah, that's what i use).

(I don't know what Silver White Cake's texture is, so you be the judge) But if the cake has more of a brownie-type texture (much thick and not as 'fluffy' like cake is), then you should use regular grease or Pam Spray.

I'm no master chef, but I come from a family of some pretty good bakers =)Is vegetable oil work in place of shortening?
yes. the only difference is shortening has more fat !
mmmmmmmmmmmmm silver white cake, what was the question?
Yes. Exact exchange.

Sure you don't want to run out to the store??

Am I going to be reading about egg or milk substitutions soon?
Oil is a good substitute for shortening as is butter, especially in baking. In cakes, not so much for cookies.
