I just realized that the oil I used to make cake (just one of those instant cakes) is far past the due date. Will I get sick if I eat it?What happens to vegetable oil when it goes bad?
Since vegetable oil is a natural product, it can go rancid - meaning bacteria and other nasty things can start to grow in it.
However, since you baked it, that should have killed off the bacteria. I doubt you will get sick - they just might taste a little off since the oil may be rancid.
Don't use it again, but you should be OK.What happens to vegetable oil when it goes bad?
It gets rancid and no you shouldn't get sick.
uh, let me think on that one.
uh, duh. it would be in your best interest to just throw the whole thing away and start fresh. oil should not sit out.
Cooking oil does go very, very bad. I had a jar in the pantry for about 2 years. I never used the stuff. I opened it and boy the stink from it nearly knocked me off my feet. Don't eat anything you make with it. You will regret it sorely.
