What is the difference between olive oil and vegetable oil?

Is it bad if you use olive oil in baking? What is the difference between olive oil and vegetable oil?
The difference is in taste and viscosity.

It isn't bad to use it in baking, but it will change the flavor of the food. I use it as a marinate on baked chicken, so it isn't all bad. What is the difference between olive oil and vegetable oil?
Olive oil has a much more obvious flavor than vegetable oil. You can tell just by looking at the two. I prefer to use olive oil for flavor when I make bruschetta or on a salad with vinaigrette. I really don't use it for frying or baking, especially sweets. I don't know if you meant baking chicken, fish, or a dessert. Vegetable oil has a cleaner flavor that doesn't compete with your other ingredients.

What is the difference between olive oil and vegetable oil?

Besides where they come from the difference is the smoke point, the temperature at which the oil smokes and becomes unless, and the taste.

Vegetable oil has a higher smoke point than olive oil. Olive Oil should never be use for saut茅ing or frying. Vegetable Oil or Canola Oil is perfect for these high heat cooking techniques.

Is it bad if you use olive oil in baking?

No, Olive Oil is perfect for baking and roasting. I use it all the time when I am roasting meats, veg, and fish. I even use it in place egg wash for some bread recipes. Tossing the food in Olive Oil will allow the product to attract more heat, in turn getting a better brown faster
Apart from about 拢1-50? (Haha.) Olive oil is suppose to be much better for you. It's higher in monounsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants and is thought to cut your risk of getting heart disease (it lowers cholesterol) and colonic cancer.

So no, cooking with it will do more good than bad.

Extra virgin olive oil is the one you're suppose to look out for.
This one is certainly not going to get the best answer,

but lot of dudes I know buy Olive oil instead of Vegetable oil, just because they think its cool and better, in truth Vegetable oil is less in Cholesterol ( atleast from where I read. won't quote it. )
my mom stopped buying vegetable oil and started buing olive oil because it healthier. i love baking and use the olive oil in my baking all the time. in my opinion it dosent make a difference
Well obviously it depends on what dish you are baking. But olive oil has a distinct flavor. I wouldn't use it in the place of a recipe calling for vegetable oil.
The difference is that veg oil has trans fat. The olive oil is healthier for you, but if you don't like the flavor try using canola oil for things you are baking!
olive oil has a lower smoke Temperature
It's not bad, but it would be a waste of an expensive oil.

  • If I use canola oil in my brownies instead of vegetable oil, will there be any noticeable differences?

I'm completely out of vegetable oil, but I have a lot of canola oil. Can I use that in brownies in place of the veggie oil without changing the brownies texture or taste? What is the difference between the two?If I use canola oil in my brownies instead of vegetable oil, will there be any noticeable differences?
Your brownies will taste exactly the same, and have the same texture. Canola oil is great oil for recipes that call for vegetable oil. It is also one of the most heart-healthy oils there is to use. It is the lowest in saturated fat of all popular oils, high in monounsaturated, and a good source of omega-3.If I use canola oil in my brownies instead of vegetable oil, will there be any noticeable differences?
Vegetable oil can be made from a blend of things, including soybeans, corn and rapeseed -- which are the common forms of cooking oil anyway.

Canola oil is made exclusively from rapeseeds, and is higher in Omega 3 fatty acids than regular vegetable oil. It's a little lighter in taste (as in, there's less flavor to it), and it's perfectlyinterchangeablee with vegetable oil in every way.
No, it want change the taste in the brownies it will make the brownies more fluffier than the v-oil and before you put the icing on the brownies make should the brownies is cold so the top of the brownies break into on the top.
They are interchangeable and virtually identical in flavor.

What is the difference between canola oil and vegetable oil?

Can I use vegetable oil in place of canola oil in a marinade recipe? What is the difference between canola oil and vegetable oil?
Canola oil comes from a hybrid plant developed in Canada during the late 1960s - 1970s using traditional pedigree hybrid propagation techniques (not genetically modified) involving black mustard, leaf mustard, and turnip rapeseed. The original rapeseed plant was high in erucic acid, which is an unpalatable fatty acid having negative health effects in high concentrations. Canola oil contains less than 1 percent erucic acid. Actually, another name for canola oil is LEAR (Low Erucic Acid Rapeseed) oil.

    It is called Canola because you can't exactly call it ';Rapeseed oil';

Vegetable oil is made from any number of vegetable fats and is high is triglycerides.

Yes, feel free to substitute in most recipes, but try to use canola instead of vegetable oil in general. What is the difference between canola oil and vegetable oil?
Yes, you can use canola oil instead of vegetable oil in a recipe. It's just cooking oil.

The difference is that canola is a little better for you:

';Vegetable fats and oils are substances composed of triglycerides, derived from plants';.

';Compared with sunflower, corn, peanut, and many other oils, Canola has a low ratio of saturated to unsaturated fat';.
I would try it, because they're pretty close. Vegetable oil is a mixture of different things, while canola is a special type. Vegetable is pretty similar to canola though, that's why I say try it. Neither one has a really strong flavor to it.
hmmm....let's think long and hard about this question before trying to find an answer. hmmmm...let me see. could the difference be that canola oil is made from canola and the vegetable oil is made from vegetables? that couldn't be, could it?

you can use either in any recipe, marinade, sauce, etc. the nutritional information may be different though, in terms of # of calories and what not.

What can I use as a substitute for vegetable oil for cupcakes?

I wanna make yellow batter cupcakes, but have no vegtebale oil. is it OK to use butter? what else can i use? What can I use as a substitute for vegetable oil for cupcakes?
melted butter is fine, you can even use applesauce or yogurt, though the texture/flavour changes someWhat can I use as a substitute for vegetable oil for cupcakes?
    Use apple sauce.
    applesauce!
You can use applesauce or mayo. Both work just fine.
Yes you can use melted butter. The butter will give them spectacular taste !!!

I actually omit any oil in ANY cake mix and simply add that amount in water. Works just fine.

    : )
You can us butter, margerine or APPLE SAUCE, apple sauce is more healthy, your choice.
    apple sauce
alot i just use water. i hate all the unhealthy oil.
Use melted butter, I substitute that anyway because I don't like the heavy taste of oil. Use a tiny bit more about 1 tablespoon because butter has more water in it than oil does.
    apple sauce
applesauce or plain yogurt will work the best

    Vegetable oil?

Is there anywhere near Little Rock, AR where you can get waste vegetable oil? i.e.- restaraunts?Vegetable oil?
talk to the resturants, you'll probably have to supply them with containers but tell them you'll haul it for free. they have to normally pay to have it taken away.Vegetable oil?
ask any resturant or McDonalds for their old used vegetable oil.

    Vegetable oil?

How do you run a car on vegetable oil?

Also is it legal and will it do the engine in?Vegetable oil?
My mate shoves a couple of big bottles of Veg Oil into his car every time he goes to Tesco's. It seems to mix up in the tank ok with the diesel he's got in there and it actually makes the car quicker and more responsive! Doesn't seem to have blocked the injectors so far!! Oh, it's not specifically legal to do it this way (there's no fuel duty on it, that's why it's cheaper) but if you do it in the privacy of your own driveway.....

    It's a '96P Golf TDVegetable oil?
First, you need a diesel engine, and preferably an indirect-injection engine, not a modern direct-injection engine, and definitely not one with a high-pressure injection system such as common-rail or Pumpe-Duse. It can easily gum-up the injectors and pumps in a high-pressure system, and it can eventually gum-up the pistons in the cylinders in direct injection engines. Up to 5% bio-diesel (which is derived from vegetable oil, but is not the same as you buy in the supermarket) in normal mineral diesel is permitted by most manufacturers but beyond 5% and you're at your own risk.

Vegetable oil solidifies at low temperatures, so if you either need to use small quantities of vegetable oil mixed with normal diesel fuel, or you need to install a fuel-heating system.

As for the legality - it is legal if you contact the Customs %26amp; Excise, keep acceptable notes of exactly how much vegetable oil you use as road-vehicle fuel, and pay the (reduced) duty. If you don't pay the road-fuel duty it is illegal to use it on the public roads.

You can get more information at http://www.dieselveg.com/
Do a search on bio diesel, yes it is legal.
Vegetable oil must be processed before it's bio fuel. It is much better for your engine than diesel and smells like McDonald's.
Unless your car has a diesel engine it is not possible to run it on vegetable oil. If it is a diesel it will run on a vegetable oil/diesel mixture and is legal to do.
Since COB goober just wants his 2 points and doesn't know anything about diesels let alone diesel fuel then I hope no one takes his advice. Veggie oil is used ONLY in diesels....diesels use EXTREMELY HIGH COMPRESSION AND HEAT in order to ignite. This is known as a compression ignition system. This is why diesels have their reputation as grease burners. When you use your bio-diesel...YOU REALLY need to be sure you trust the person making the product. Since a dirty final product will easily foul your injectors forcing you to miss fire and replace your injectors due to your quality of fuel. If you decide to get a diesel then i do suggest that you put in half petroleum and the other part CLEAN filtered bio-diesel. Bio-diesel is an extremely clean burning fuel....your noxious emissions are dramatically reduced.

Bio-diesel so far is 100% legal.....Iowa has already got 40-50 some plants so far for ethanol and bio-diesel production.

I also want to state that Bio-diesel has to be mixed with lye along with some other long drawn out processes. If you aren't real familiar with what your doing then you could severely injure your self or just die. since lye will numb your nerves which you can't feel....as it eats away your skin.
They make conversion kits for certain diesels. It is legal and it is safe for the engine. Just might have exhaust that smells like fries.
i tried a litre once at it blocked my injectors, it may be ok on older deisels but i wouldnt try it on newer cars
You can use vegetable oil, but you either need to add an additive or convert it properly to bio diesel.

The BBC series ';It's not easy being green'; featured the family creating their own bio diesel convertor from old chip fat and you can find more about it in the book (see below).

The family's website also has a forum where people chat about all sorts of gree issues including bio diesel so check that out.

However, if you use vegetable oil, you must still pay the duty on the fuel you 'create' or else Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs will come after you and prosecute.

    Hope that helps.
ive been running my tractor on veg oil for years instead of diesel, smells nice and does not produce smoke, seems more powerful but could be in me mind..............
You can run a diesel on vegetable oil but it userly need pre heating to work correctly and it is nowhere as efficient as diesel you must mix it with diesel about 60%diesel , don't use on late direct injection engines it will gum up the works, at the moment it is not illegal but if to many people started to use it they will soon make it so, not a job for an amateur

    Vegetable oil?

Okay so I'm baking a cake but I don't have any vegetable oil or any ';oil'; at all and the recepie asks for like 1/2 cup of it. I do have butter tho to use in the mix, can I use that instead?

    It's a chocolate cake...Vegetable oil?
You could probably use clarified butter. It's not the very fun to make though.

Melt your butter slowly. Allow to separate. You should have 3 layers of butter. You want to skim off the top, try using a spoon or ladle to get most of it, then take a clean paper towel, lay it over the top of your butter and pull it off. This should grab most of the little pieces of foamy stuff.

The layer you want is in the middle. Spoon or ladle it off, trying not to get any of the watery stuff on the bottom, until you get half a cup. A few impurities will not ruin your cake.

Your cake is going to be a little richer with this, and since it's so tedious, you might be better off running to the store or borrowing from a neighbor.Vegetable oil?
You might want to just wait on making your cake until you have the proper ingredients.

You haven't said whether it's salted or unsalted butter that you have on hand. If it's salted (what most people buy) it will add a salty flavour to your chocolate cake. If you 'clarify' the butter (sweet or salted) you will end up with an odd taste (nutty, but not reminiscent of walnuts, etc.) you may not want in your cake. Clarifying butter makes it taste 'nutty'. That's fine if it's a vegetable *like onions, or garlic* you want to saute, but it might not be what you're looking for in a chocolate cake.
    Sure, just melt it.
If substituting butter for oil, first melt so as to accurately measure according to your recipe, stand the bowl or butter container in a pan of warm water till melted ,pour into the measuring cup. Butter is a lot richer %26amp; heavier than vegetable oil ,so i think a little less than 1/2 cup should be just right. Happy baking .
